Just need to finish the cleanup of the legacy code into other directories, so the code branches are cleaner for the current DC release building. The port to GitHub, of the archived CVS is the first step. Īnd for end-users, since 2 of the big online searching giants have commercialized and we may not be able to get to their API's for awhile, I may have to go towards hosting their offerings of dump file content, so that DC clients hit the DC web site as a lookup source.Īnd yes, I want to get the source control working and usable again. Things like nightly builds and automated code checks, IVY and Maven integration with Ant for the artifact management, etc.

Between the tools I can bring to bear from my ISP under the Data Crow web site, those that SourceForge can offer like MySQL DB's and developer hosting, plus what AWS now offers for development of services, there are many ways to improve things for the building/releasing DC. The history in forums and tickets at SourceForge is complete, so I wouldn't try to port it anywhere else, and I need it to come up to speed with all that happened in the past for code/design changes and the reasoning behind all of Robert's decisions.Īnd the features offered for supporting the project here, are just fine, now that SF stablized their offerings. Not to mention the Data Crow website I ported to my ISP. Yes, I am re-using Robert's work/configs wherever possible, so FossHub and SourceForge are staying around for the foreseeable future.

I am not sure those files supply all the required info about dependencies and tools and tool versions needed to produce a full build, though, so I understand your question but have to ask you to be patient for a bitĭuring the project transition, there were a few processes and questions to be worked out and as soon as I am done, which should be in a week or so, I will get this out to the community. Which, I assume, is the source code you are working with right now, hence your question? If you can't wait for this re-org to finish, then please see the build.bat files which call Ant (and use the build.xml files), all found in the source zipball, that you can download from the Data Crow website via FossHub. And then I just have to write the Build Guide. I just have to clean it up and get it all into Ant, which is what I am currently working on.

I have finally migrated the old CVS repo into Git, so I have all the files needed. Now that I am maintaining Data Crow, I am currently re-testing his build structure for the next code release. Since he maintained the project for over a decade, he didn't seem to need too many docs so there aren't many instructions. What Robert, the creator of Data Crow, seemed to be using was a combo of Eclipse, Windows. I am also a generalist programmer so I am not strongest in Java anymore, having moved on to many other languages in my work, but I can improve again, now that I have a vested interest.

Maybe even get the main website back from Robert-Jan? I don't have tons of time for public maintenance of this software for the whole community but if there were a few of us hobbyists still interested, it might work for us to keep all the investment/history already out there? As a group, or even with one of us a front-man for the others, where services need a sngle person as contact, withe thother all sharing the account mgtm/access/ownership in case something goes wrong ? The FossHub site seems active enough, though so that could be re-used. The SourceForge site is mostly empty so it can be left to wither, I think. I am trying to implement that suggestion/fix someone had mentioned somewhere in these discussion groups, to have the online service key/auth/user-pwd stuff, be able to be user supplied in a settings file or something, so that the code owner wouldn't have to necessarily supply a patch/fix for API auth stuff.Īdmittedly, it was going to be for myself, just for ease of maintenance, but I am seeign a few of us are trying to keep Data Crow alive and minimally functional, so I might try to see if I can fork off the Github project or whether phsych0d0g is interested in using his project. All the client source zip (from the site) included, were teh. I found somone (psych0d0g) who loaded the whole 4.2.2 kit, including the Java sources for the standard_service_pack.jar, into so I was able to pull it and get a look at at what Robert-Jan originally coded. I saw mentions about keys and such being neede in the code to pass to the onlince service in teh URL for a query but I am not yet seeing it in the code.

Would you be able to share your code? I am trying to get the Amazon and IMDB stuff for the movie module working but I am not sure how to code the API into Data Crow.
